A gingivectomy involves removing excess gingival tissue to reduce deep periodontal pocket depths in order to arrest periodontal disease progression or to trim back gingival overgrowth in order to improve aesthetics. Gingivectomies are performed under local anaesthetic, and the healing time is usually one to two weeks depending on the extent of the procedure, the patient’s age, and medical history.
