Resective Periodontal Surgery

Resective Periodontal Surgery

Resective periodontal surgery is performed if there are still deep periodontal probing depths associated with teeth after the provision of deep scaling. This procedure is generally required for patients with advanced or severe periodontal disease. The first phase of treatment involves deep scaling to reduce the bacterial load in periodontal pockets, reduce inflammation, and prepare your gingival tissues for resective periodontal surgery.

The objective of this surgery is to reduce the deep periodontal probing depths and eliminate any bony defects around the teeth that are being treated. Ultimately, the purpose of resective periodontal surgery is to arrest periodontal disease progression and to improve the long-term prognosis for your teeth. The response to this procedure will be evaluated three months later to ensure periodontal disease progression has been arrested around the teeth that were treated.
