Dr. Mary O'Dea
BDS (NUI), Mclin Dent in Periodontology (Eastman) UCL
Dr. Mary O’ Dea graduated from University College Cork in 1993 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery Degree. She worked in private practice in London for seven years and attended many courses during her time there relating to general dentistry, before returning to Cork in 2000. After practicing as an Associate Dentist she set up her own practice in 2002. After gaining a wide range of experience as a general dentist for 11 years, Mary commenced three years of full time specialist training in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry at the world renowned UCL Eastman Dental Institute, London in 2004. This qualification involved clinical training and a research thesis in the genetic heritability of periodontal disease due to neutrophil dysfunction.
Mary is accepting referrals for all aspects of periodontal care and implant dentistry since completing her Masters in Clinical Dentistry. She is certified by the European Federation of Periodontists and attends international conferences in periodontology and Implant dentistry to provide the best treatment for patients.Mary is a member of the Irish Dental Association, the Irish Society of Periodontology, the European Federation of Periodontology, the International Team for Implantology and the Association of Dental Implantology.
Niamh Collins
RDN, RDH (NUI)
Niamh qualified as a dental hygienist in 2000 having completed her training at University College Cork. She has worked closely with Dr. O’Dea since 2007, treating patients with periodontal disease. She endeavours to provide an excellent service for patients incorporating advice on oral hygiene, diet and smoking cessation in conjunction with scaling. More complex and deeper cleaning is provided under local anaesthetic. Niamh also administers local delivery antibiotics for specific cases.
Aoife O'Mahony
RDH (NUI)
Aoife is a dedicated and experienced Dental Hygienist qualifying from University College Cork in 2015.Since joining the practice in 2016 Aoife has developed a strong focus in periodontal care, working closely with Dr. Mary O’ Dea and patients to support their long term care. As part of a specialist practice, Aoife is passionate about prevention of periodontal disease, patient education, and helping patients manage their gum disease with confidence. Her calm, friendly approach puts patients at ease making each visit as comfortable and reassuring as possible.
Aoife treats periodontal disease with deep scaling under local anaesthetic and administers adjuncts if they’re prescribed by Dr. Mary O’ Dea to optimize the response to non-surgical periodontal therapy in specific cases. Aoife stays up to date with the latest in dental hygiene through regular attendance at conferences and her ongoing professional education.
Jean O’ Donnell
R.D.H. NUI
Jean graduated from UCC with First Class Honors in Dental Hygiene and received The Henry Shein Award for best overall clinical results as well as the Ann Holohan Scholar Award in her final year. She joined our team at O’Dea Periodontics in 2021.
Jean is an academically and clinically motivated hygienist who has a great passion for what she does. She enjoys all aspects of treating patients with periodontal disease and strives to get the best results possible in each case. Jean’s encouraging approach ensures patients feel comfortable during treatment and continue to improve their oral health.
Claudia Long
Senior Nurse Manager
Claudia started her dental nursing career in Oral and Dental Implant Surgery. She then went on to specialise in Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Periodontics. Claudia has worked in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry for many years so she brings a wealth of experience to the Practice as Senior Nurse Manager. Claudia joined our team in May 2019 and her main focus is on the surgical treatment of patients as well as the management of the nursing team. Claudia has over twenty five years of Dental Nursing experience and she takes a holistic approach in the care of patients.
Audrey Clifford
Registered Dental Nurse
Audrey joined our Practice in January 2021 as a Dental Assistant and graduated as a Dental Nurse after completing her Diploma of Dental Nursing in UCC in 2023. Audrey works closely with Dr. Mary O’Dea on her complex surgical cases which she finds very rewarding. She loves being part of a team that works well together to get the best outcome for patients.
Audrey not only assists Dr. O’Dea in providing treatment but also provides reassurance and support to all patients. Ongoing professional development helps Audrey to stay up to date with the latest techniques. Audrey has a passion for aesthetics and is dedicated to providing excellent patient care, ensuring that each patient feels comfortable and valued.
Ethna Kenny
Receptionist and treatment co-ordinator
Ethna joined our team in January 2023 as a receptionist and administrative support, having previously worked in customer service within the Pharmaceutical Quality Sector.
Ethna is Master’s Degree qualified and is very experienced in detail management and administration. As a result, Ethna brings a wealth of experience and fantastic organizational skills to the Practice; from coordinating treatment plans for patients to scheduling appointments. Ethna endeavours to make the whole process as efficient and as friendly as possible, making patients feel at ease from the moment they attend with us.
